MIND CONTROL IS THE KEY TO HAPPINESS

By Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev (aninternational speaker, author and peace advocate with profound spiritualand cultural insights on health and human potential).....................
Soothing music and witty tales kept Delhi audiences enthralled asspiritual counselor Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev stressed on the mind's power forhappiness and peace.
Far from being a moral science lesson full of spiritual jargon, the yogi'sdiscourse late Thursday on 'Circus of the mind' was a simple talk backedup with tips on mental control.
"Circus is a very well-coordinated activity made to look like a mess.Similarly our mind, which has a thousand neurons shooting messages to thebody, is like a circus. There are so many thoughts, so many emotionsrunning through it at all times.
"But whether you use your mind to live positively or make it a miserymanufacturing machine depends on you," the Sadhguru said.
As people jostled each other for space at the Federation of IndianChambers of Commerce and Industry auditorium, the spiritual guru warnedagainst detachment.
"Detachment, which most people think is the answer to unhinderedhappiness, is simply a fear of getting entangled. It means you are runningaway from life. Be involved in life's smallest activities. That is thebest way to live and the mantra for a happy life," the Sadguru said.
To avoid getting entangled in life, he advised shedding of'identifications'.
"You carry a thousand identifications with you, be it your gender, caste, creed or relationship with someone. When your intellect identifies (withsuch things), your perception will be distorted," he added.
"When you think something bad is going to happen, doesn't it actuallyhappen?" he asked the attentive audience.
As many nodded their heads, he said: "That's because you think about thenegative so strongly that your mind is convinced about it. Even a minorincident makes you think, this is it."
With instrumental music interspersing the discourse, which was organizedby the World Academy of Spiritual Sciences (WASS), the Gangaram hospitaland the Research Institute of Vedic Culture, the talk cheered the crowd.

For example you read this................A famous Journalist whileinterviewing Guru asked a question.
Journalist: "What is the role of the guru, what should people be lookingfor? I see most of them churning out old wine in new bottles"?.
Guru: "I know all the people you have in mind. I know you are a journalistand you will put it everywhere but I have to say this. I will be ashamedto be grouped with them. Guru means one who is the dispeller of darkness.By reading and translating two chapters of the Bhagwad Gita does not makeyou a guru. There was a time when interpreting a book was importantbecause only one man in the village could read. Now every body can read aswe continue to try and create a literate world around us. So why do youwant to interpret that book for the people? Let every one read the bookthemselves and understand it the way they want to. A guru is not here tointerpret scriptures and books. He is here to bring out the possibilitieswithin you that by yourself, you may not be able to explore because it maybe in a totally different direction from the way you may be looking.
I’m an uneducated guru. I don’t know the scriptures, I have not read theVedas and I didn’t bother to read the Bhagvad Gita. I’m about life-I’m notabout heaven. Its not a popular thing to say, but I believe that the wholeeffort of the guru should be to help the seeker deepen his seeking, not togive him answers.
If I give you the answers then the only option you have is to eitherbelieve me or disbelieve me. If it is me you believe then you are notgetting any closer to finding answers to your seeking. If you don’tbelieve me, you aren’t getting closer either. All you’ll have will be aninteresting story that I told you, to tell others, who in turn will tellothers and it will all continue to be distorted and add to all thosedistorted stories that have been going around for years and have messed uppeople’s lives so badly.
If a human being says I don’t know something, then the possibility ofknowing is open in his life. When a man believes he knows something thathe does not know he is a mess because he believes something he does notknow.
I come from only my experience and the only thing that I know for sure isthis piece of life. I don’t know anything else. I don’t know what Ramasaid or Krishna said. Whatever bits and pieces I heard from my grandmotherdidn’t make any sense to me. For me Rama was the son of a king who becamea king. Beyond that I don’t see anything. The guru should not be talkingabout Rama or Krishna but about the means by which to deepen the humanexperience. A human being today lives on the surface of life and theguru’s effort should be to take him to his innermost core".
